The Kiel Group

A further group not listed on the database are 153 Jewish prisoner who on the first of May 1945 were collected from the concentration camp Kiel-Hassee by a Danish ambulances team. Most of them German Jews who had in 1941 been deported to Riga in Lithuania and at the end of the war been transported back to Germany. Their odyssey is described in the book “Wir sollten leben” (We were to survive) by Bernd Philipsen and Fred Zimmak.
